I WAS AT CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY in 1987 when Kyle Petty won the Coca-Cola 600. Richard Petty, in a lapped car, blocked Morgan Shepherd and another driver to protect his son, but that's another story.

The Wood Brothers normally ran No. 21, not No. 7, as they did that day. But 7-Eleven was the sponsor and wanted 7 on the car for that race.
Turned out it was no problem. The Woods realized there were three 7s on the car, one on each door and one on the roof, and that added up to 21.
