More than 20 years ago, David Pearson was telling me about something that had happened in 1995. The standard thing at the time was to leave the track early to beat the traffic.
Pearson had left Darlington Raceway and headed toward Spartanburg, S.C., but he was listening to the Busch Series race on the radio. When David's son, Larry, won the race, David had to hurry back to the track to hug him and celebrate with his team.
He said he wasn't irritated at having to go back; Larry was important to him. Despite his anxiety to get there, he DIDN'T get a ticket.
By the way, the Busch Series is now called the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series.
