THIS CHEVROLET PHOTO WAS TAKEN LONG AFTER THE STORY BELOW HAPPENED |
Years ago, I was working in the media center at a race track, and the woman who was running the Indianapolis Star's racing web site was sitting beside me. She looked dejected. She was trying to figure out how to write a story on everything she'd heard that day, so I gave her some advice.
I told her to pare down her information to one person or one thing. Pick something interesting and do that. I've seen too many people choose a huge subject (history, women, dogs, auto racing, football) and try to do too much.
I could see her relax, and she quickly wrote her story.
Later, she had me write a couple of stories for the Star's racing web site. So it worked out all around.
