When I first started writing auto racing for the Charleston Post and Courier in 1990, Mark Martin was tearing up the NASCAR tracks in the No. 6 Jack Roush Fords.
In the Roush 6 cars, Mark started 617 races from 1988 to 2006 and posted 35 of his 40 career wins. Hall-of-fame driver David Pearson posted 27 wins while driving Cotton Owens' No. 6 cars, and Owens (six wins) and Marshall Teague (seven) were other notable drivers in the 6 cars.
The 6 cars have won 83 races in 1,688 starts. David Ragan, Buddy Baker, Charlie Glotzbach, Pete Hamilton, Bobby Allison, Joe Eubanks, Danny Letner and Herb Thomas all earned single victories in No. 6 cars.
