AUGUST 21, 2014 — Whitney Lail's first Super Truck win leads my notebook. The feature this week is on Scott Kilby, Hickory's tech guy and former track champion.
AUGUST 14, 2014 — My notebook this week leads with HMS promoter Kevin Piercy talking about rain. The feature is on Jeremy Pelfrey, who is fourth in Limited Late Model points.
JULY 17, 2014 — Tyler Church is the lead of the notebook. The feature is on Classic Sportsman driver Bob Hapeman.
JULY 10, 2014 — The notebook leads with Richard Brown, the former Cup driver who is going through dialysis. The feature is on Carroll McKinney, who is second in HMS Renegades points.
JULY 3, 2013 — The Koma Unwind Modified Series leads the notebook, and the feature is on Limited Late Model driver Dillon Houser.
JUNE 26, 2014 — My notebook led with Annabeth Barnes' appearance on a Velocity TV show. The feature was on 78-year-old Bill Webb, who won the most recent Classic Sportsman race run at Hickory Motor Speedway.
JUNE 12, 2014 — The notebook led with Taylor Stricklin, who leads the Limited Late Model division at HMS. The feature was on the slam-bang finish between Brayton Haws and Landon Huffman in the Late Model race.
JUNE 5, 2014 — My notebook leads with Landon Huffman getting his first career Late Model victory. The feature is on Ken Webb, who now volunteers as an announcer at HMS. In 2012, he had a horrible vintage-car crash on the same track.
MAY 8, 2014 — My notebook leads with Dexter Canipe Jr., who has won two of the three Limited Late Model races he's run this season. The feature this week was on Kevin Townsend, who has won all but one Street Stock race this year.
MAY 1, 2014 — This week's stories are about the old and young. Morgan Shepherd, a 72-year-old Nationwide Series driver who is having money problems, leads this week's notebook. Whitney Lail, a 19-year-old Super Truck racer, is the subject of the feature.
APRIL 24, 2014 — My notebook leads with Tyler Church, who finished second in the PASS South race at HMS. The feature was on Kate Dallenbach, who races in Hickory's Big 10 Racing Challenge races.
APRIL 17, 2014 — The PASS South Series is racing at Hickory this week, and there are two former HMS regulars racing in PASS South this year. The notebook leads with Tyler Church, the current PASS South points leader and the winner of a PASS South race last year at Hickory. The feature is on Brandon Setzer, the 20-year-old son of Dennis Setzer, a two-time HMS track champion and a former standout in NASCAR's Nationwide and Truck series.
APRIL 10, 2014 — Allen Huffman, who has his own racing ministry, is the lead for this week's notebook. Also, another Limited Late Model driver, Travis Byrd, is the subject of this week's feature.
APRIL 3, 2014 — My notebook this week leads with the X-1R Pro Cup Series, which runs Saturday at HMS. The feature is on Limited Late Model driver Dylon Wilson, who has Type 1 diabetes.
MARCH 27, 2014 — My notebook this week leads with the Koma Unwind Modified race, run Saturday at HMS. They had a little confusion after the race. My feature is on Ashley Huffman, whose dad Dwight was a prominent car owner at Hickory. Ashley is sixth in Hickory's current Late Model points.
MARCH 20, 2014 — I talked to Lee and Michael Faulk and did my feature on Lee Faulk Racing, which regularly provides Late Model drivers to HMS. My notebook led with the Modified series that will make its debut Saturday at HMS.
MARCH 13, 2014 — My second notebook of the year led with the new winners at HMS. The feature was on new Late Model driver Landon Huffman, a teenager who had been racing Limited Late Models.
MARCH 6, 2014 — My first notebook of the season led with some changes at HMS. My first feature leads with Austin McDaniel running the Big 10 Racing
Challenge, and I've added more on some other racers.
